La valle delle ferriere

Description

We start from Ravello village, the medieval pearl of the Coast, where we can visit the amazing and antique villa Rufolo, where Richard Wagner found in may 1880 “Klingsor’s magic garden” and inspiration for the “Parsifal” opera he was working on.
Through old stairs and trails, between terraced lemon gardens and medieval hamlets, we will join the Valley of the Mills: an intact woody zone, rich with springs and waterfalls, surrounded with high rocks, with a immutable microclimate, which has allowed to keep prehistoric vegetables like the rare fern Woodwardia radicans.
In the long and sinuous valley, crossed by the torrent Canneto, you can still see numerous examples of industrial archaeology: remains of an aqueduct, of an ancient forge and of many paper mills, which made the paper of Amalfi famous with the religious and royal institutes as soon as in the XII century. The hike goes on along the torrent till Amalfi.
